This week I didn't get to consume much information due to work. I also spent quite a bit of time re-organising this site and publishing my article on how I built a deployment pipeline for MoleculerJS using Docker, Github Actions and Fly.io. That being said, I still have a few things that caught my interest this week!
First up is an article on how to maximise the opportunities when a recruiter reaches out to you. In his article, Career Advice Nobody Gave Me: Never Ignore a Recruiter, Alex talks about some of the benefits and techniques to replying a recruiter. This was a really helpful article for me as I'm usually at a lost as to how to best reply recruiters who reached out to me on LinkedIn. I'll definitely be using some of the techniques in my future correspondence with recruiters.
During one of my morning commutes to work, I listened to this podcast that looked at China's current economic situation as a potential investment opportunity. I've been trying to get into investing lately and have been exposing myself to more finance related podcasts and videos. You may check out this podcast here.
Lastly, I read an article titled 'How to pass a coding interview with me'. One interesting point that stood out to me was the author's take on writing TODO
throughout the code. I certainly agreed with this style of programming as its something I often do at work. While we often get criticised in our school assignments for leaving TODOs lying around, it is actually quite a helpful practice in the real world. Delaying a potential refactor helps me to focus on the task at hand while also adding a note to both myself and the team that there is potential room for improvement. I tend to resolve my any pending TODOs during my code reviews if the reviewer and I agree that it is worth the time to do so.
That is all from me for this week. It's been a busy week and I hope to find more good content to share next week!
