Weekly Nomz 6

Hello there! Welcome back to another edition of the weekly nomz. The last week was extremely hectic as I tried my best to balance work and school. So much to do, so little time. Nevertheless, I managed to squeeze in some time during my daily commutes to consume some interesting content. Let's get into it!

If you want to learn more about marketing, or just casually listen to some marketing insights, I would recommend listening to the 'Marketing Against the Grain' podcast. I started following this podcast in order to better understand marketing and sales strategies so that I can connect with my girlfriend better about her work. Their recent few episodes talking about the future of AI and the existing competition between Google and OpenAI have been quite interesting and insightful. Though I am not an AI engineer, I enjoy listening to the perspectives shared and I am amazed at how forward thinking people can be. As a junior engineer, sometimes I am too short-sighted in seeing the long term goals of the business. My focus is on what I can do in the upcoming sprints, and I fail to see the long term perspective of the business. Without any grasp on the long term business goals and objectives, it is difficult to build products that is truly meaningful and have lasting impact. I would recommend these 2 podcasts to anyone who wants to be inspired and learn a little bit more about the market for AI in the near future.

While randomly browsing youtube this week, I stumbled upon this video on how to 'Speak More Articulately than 99% of People'. In it, the creator talks about replacing workhorse words with more expressive words. These words are not necessarily more complex, but they are more expressive and can help to convey your message more clearly. This video caught my attention because I have been trying hard to improve my written and spoken communication skills. Writing these weekly blog posts have certainly motivated me to get better at writing with clarity and brevity. This might not be the best video or learning material out there, but it was certainly interesting nonetheless.

Lastly, I just wanted to state that I've been reading 'Warren Buffett and the Interpretation of Financial Statements' recently. The information shared are easy to understand but hard to apply. Definitely lots of practice is required to get better at understanding companies. Regardless, its good general knowledge to have and I'm glad I'm learning more about it.

Not much to share on tech articles this week. Been too tired to read much so I listened to more podcast and videos instead. Hopefully next week I'll be able to write about them more. If you enjoyed reading my posts and want to interact with me, feel free to reach out to me at my email (joshua.tyf.career@gmail.com). I will try to implement a comments section in the near future after I'm done with my school final year project. Thank you for reading and see you next week!
